3D Model

After all my research and sketches, I have finally created my 3D model of the Tea Tree Gully council area. I created half of the council building and the area with my changes to it. I created the patio with the fountain, chairs and tables plus the stairs, which I had to add. I represented my changes to the area in blue.
To create the model, I used cardboard, stuck together by blue tack and double sided sticky tape. I think this turned out quite well, although I had a small scale to work with.

Below is a few images of the model:

Sketches 4

In this post, I looked at the birds eye view of the Tea Tree Gully council building and the council area with my changes to it. I have now redone the sketch and highlighted my changes in blue. From this, you can see my changes and how large the patio, fountain and chairs and tables will be. Below is the image for this.

I also looked at the front view of the area with my changes to it. I looked at the scale of the patio, how high and long it would be when viewed from the front. I looked at the scale of the chairs, tables and the sound fountain as well with the little man to compare. This will help me in creating the 3D model in the last part of this assignment. Below is the image for the front view.

These sketches show the changes I have made to the council area, which I think they will benefit from. It also shows me how to go about the 3D model and the scale of the patio, fountain and chairs and tables. I will continue to look at more sketches if I need more help with creating the 3D model.

Sketches 3

In this post, I looked at different designs of the sound fountain from the Dubai hotel and took inspiration from these to create my own designs.
Below are my sketches of the sound fountain designs:

These were done on Illustrator and I wanted to create a design that included the Japanese style of the Sister City to the Tea Tree Gully council. The bottom design shows this with a lotus flower that I thought was very Japanese. I like this idea better than the top, the top design isn't very appealing to look at.

For now I really like the bottom design and will continue to look at this, but I will also continue looking at other ideas too.

Sketches 2

In this post, I was thinking about my ideas, the mini putt putt idea, the sound fountain idea and the chair and patio idea. I like the sound fountain and chair and patio idea, but I am not sure about the mini putt putt idea. I think it was a good idea to have something that would involve the community and bring people to the council building, however, there is too many problems with this, like the fact that people could cause damage to the council and library. So due to this I am eliminating this idea and looking more into the other two ideas.

Also in this post, I looked at the layout of the Tea Tree Gully council building, created on Illustrator.
Below is the current layout of the building without my changes to it:

The sketch is quite rough and from this you can see how large the free space is. Also there is a lot of trees in this area. This may be a problem as for my idea the trees in the free space may need to be taken away which the council may not want. Another problem with having the large amount of trees, it may block the view of Civic Park, which may be problematic for people who want to see a view of the park.
Below is the layout of the building with my changes to it:

Here I have included the patio with the sound fountain, chairs and tables. However, it is quite rough and the patio looks quite large in the area. I think this is a good idea as it allows people to interact with the sound fountain as well as sit and relax, or even eat or read.

I will continue to look more into this idea and looking at different layouts for the sound fountain. I will also look at doing a better sketch of the building and my changes, that is both detailed and to scale.

Research 2

Through my research of the Tea Tree Gully council, I found that the council has a Sister City. Asakuchi is situated in Okayama Prefecture, Japan and has been the Sister City since 2006. In April of that year, the town of Kamogata merged with Konko and Yorishima, which are now known as Asakuchi City. The Sister City Agreement was signed in 2007 and is the basis for developing cultural, educational, sporting and business ties.
From this, I was thinking of creating something that would incorporate and make the community aware of this Sister City. I could use this with the idea of the chair and patio design or with the fountain.
Below are some images I found of Asakuchi:

Sketches

In this post, I looked at different designs of chairs and took inspiration from these to create my own chair designs. The images in my last post of the chairs and patios, is what I took inspiration from.
Below are my sketches of different chair designs.

These were done on Illustrator and I really wanted to create a chair that is both comfortable and looks really cool. I like the curved, low chairs with a wooden texture. I do think that if I was to go with this design for the council I would need to have something comfortable, but also something to shade people from the sun, like the last image at the top.

I will continue to experiment with different ideas and ways to improve the council building.

Research

In this post, I came up with a few ideas to improve the council building, which are:

A patio in the free area with architectural designed chairs for people to sit, read, relax or eat on. With this I found some designs of chairs and patio layouts, which can be seen below.

The second idea I had, was to have an area for people of any age to have a game of mini putt putt. I did have one concern if the golf ball would damage the property of the council building or the library. Below I found images of different mini putt putt areas.

My third idea, was along the lines of having a water fountain, but one where people could interact with it, like a sound fountain. When I visited Dubai, in the hotel they had a fountain that responded to music and would spit out water with each tone. I thought this would be great for people to interact with by playing different music and seeing the water respond. Below are some images of the water fountain from the hotel and some others.

I quite like the idea of having the water fountain, but I will definitely look into all the ideas and come up with the best idea and solution to improve the council building.
